How to share a link with a group when not everyone is in the same chat

Twelve people need the same sign-up form by Friday. Seven are in the WhatsApp group, three only use Messenger, one is on GroupMe with the soccer parents, and one has no group chat at all.

If you are wondering how to share a link with a group like that, the answer is less about one perfect app and more about where each person already is.

1. Post it where most of the group already is

▲ The fastest route is the chat most people already open every day

Start with the biggest chat. Paste the link as its own message, with one line above it saying what it is and when it is due.

One link, one message, one line of context. Links buried in the middle of a long paragraph get skipped.

Four things to check before sending a link to a group

▲ A short note above the link does more than posting it twice

2. When people are in different apps

Where each kind of group link works

▲ Pick the channel by who is missing, not by habit

Now look at who did not see it. Usually it is two or three people, and each one has a channel that works.

A group invite link solves a different problem. It brings people into the chat.

If you want them in the group for the long run, share the WhatsApp or Telegram invite link once and let the chat do the rest.

For a one-off form, inviting someone to a new group is heavy. A direct message or a plain email with the same link and the same one-line note is kinder.

3. When the group is in one room

Sometimes the group is sitting in front of you. A class, a club meeting, a training session, and the link is on your laptop.

Reading a long address aloud rarely works. A QR code on the projector is a solid choice if everyone has a camera that scans.

There is more on that room problem in Getting the same text to a room of people who share no app.

ZAGO.TO is another way for one person at a time. Paste the link, get 4 digits, and the person types them on their phone.

It deletes the link 1 minute after it is opened, so each person needs their own code, which makes it a poor fit for twelve people at once.

It moves text only, and there is no in-browser encryption yet, so our server can read what you paste. Use it for public links only.

Quick answers

Can I send a link to multiple people without a group? Most apps let you forward one message to several chats. WhatsApp and Messenger both have a forward option with a recipient list.

Why does nobody click the link? Usually it lacks context. Add what it is, who it is for, and the deadline.

Should I share the group invite link publicly? Only if you are fine with strangers joining. Anyone with the link can usually get in.
